Can I Register My Illinois Plates At A Currency Exchange

Where to go new plates for vehicles?

I had always just done it at the DMV before, merely where I am now people keep telling me to only go to a currency exchange to get new plates. I'm not actually seeing the advantage. I'll be at the DMV anyhow.

Can anyone explain this for me?

1) Illinois doesn't have a DMV. Information technology'due south the Secretary of Country Vehicle Services that does License plates.
2) Not all SOS locations handle vehicle "stuff".
3) Currency Exchanges will do what yous need but they tack on a fee the SOS does non.
If y'all want to avoid those boosted fees ...

I got mine at a currency exchange this past Friday. The extra fee was only $five and I was in and out in simply a few minutes. Only more convenient for me. It's well-nigh 1/4 mile from me and there's never anyone at that place. Nearest SOS to me is naperville (v miles) and that place is always a nightmare whenever I've had to get there.

But if you're gonna exist at the SOS anyway, and so only practise it while yous're there.

I was at the worst DMV (really the Sec. of Land's facility - when he isn't conducting Illinois Earth-shaking strange policy!) at 99th and Rex Dr. final calendar week. It has ever been a mess out at that place - long lines, bitchy workers, idiotic and contradictory instructions, etc.

I gave myself a ton of fourth dimension because I had to become the sticker for my plates AND do a change of address on my drivers license - something I had been putting off for months considering I figured information technology would take forever.

I was shocked. It was May 31st and the place was jammed. And I was in and out in near 45 minutes. They really have improved the service tremendously. The people were friendly, helpful, and accommodating. I almost had a middle attack I was so surprised at the good service!

I save all my SOS stuff until we head out to Galena IL (about 4 to 6 times a year).
The facility is fantastic and merely the opposite of the ones in Chicagoland.
Friendly people and never busy.
They even utilise the former fashioned deli carte du jour system and it'due south always on 1.
Just for ha ha'due south one time I took the number (the facility was otherwise empty) and the agent said I don't need to do that. I said I wanted to hear my number chosen. He said "fine, take the number, sit downward and I call you in and hour". Quite the humour.
If you don't believe me see attached pics.

I had to practice a Championship and Plate transfer last calendar week and went to the SOS Facility at The Thompson Center in Chicago. I was prepared for a long and frustrating visit but much to my suprise I was in and out in 15 minutes and the Staff could not have been more than helpful and pleasant to deal with......I was shocked!

rcbrcb - I've experienced the same thing at Starship Illinois.

I guess Jesse White is doing his chore pretty well seeing every bit that's pretty much all the SOS has to do - information technology's always been a springboard to governor considering of proper noun recognition - his name is on every drivers license and state ID.

Only between the Thompson Heart, 99th and Male monarch Dr., and Galena, it seems that going to the SOS role isn't the trial it used to be.

It actually is shocking, particularly for those of us onetime plenty to call back Paul "I smell the meat a-cookin" Powell.

The SOS office does more than commuter services. It also handles business/corporation registrations and required annual reports. Equally the person who gets to file those reports for my homeowners' association, the process is a lot less painful than it used to be. The SOS as well runs the state library (though there is an administrator who does all the day-to-twenty-four hour period stuff).

And to top it off, the new Title arrived yesterday....1 Week after visting the SOS Office. The last time I did a Title transfer, I got the Title 3 months later. While I find Jesse White to be a bit of a tool, he seems to be doing something correct!
